Ram sells a car to Shyam at a profit of 25% and Shyam sells this car to Sita at a profit of 24%. Now Sita sells this car to Geeta at a loss of 20%. Now at what percentage loss should Geeta sell this now so that her selling price be equal to Ram’s cost price?
Ram sells a car to Shyam at a profit of 25% and Shyam sells this car to Sita at a profit of 24%. Now Sita sells this car to Geeta at a loss of 20%. Now at what percentage loss should Geeta sell this now so that her selling price be equal to Ram’s cost price? Correct Answer 19.35%
Given:
Ram sells the car to Shyam at the profit of 25%
Shyam sells this car to Sita at the profit of 24%
Sita sells this car to Geeta at the loss of 20%
Concept used:
S.P of Ram = C.P of Shyam
S.P of Shyam = C.P of Sita
S.P of Sita = C.P of Gita
Calculation:
Let the C.P of Ram be 100x
Profit = 25%
∴ S.P of Ram = (100x × 125/100)
⇒ S.P of Ram = 125x = C.P of Shyam
So, C.P of Shyam = 125x
Profit = 24%
∴ S.P of Shyam = (125x × 124/100)
⇒ S.P of Shyam = 155x = C.P of Sita
So, C.P of Sita = 155x
Loss = 20%
∴ S.P of Sita = (155x × 80/100)
⇒ S.P of Sita = 124x = C.P of Gita
C.P of Gita = 124x
Now, as given S.P of Gita should be equal to Ram’s C.P
So, S.P of Gita will be 100x
Loss = (124x – 100x)
⇒ Loss = 24x
∴ Loss percent =
⇒ Loss percent =
⇒ Loss Percent = 19.35%
Ratio Method:
After considering all the profit and loss:
Let the CP to SP ratio between Shyam and Sita be = 100 : 124
Let the CP to SP ratio between Ram and Shyam be = 4 : 5 or 80 : 100
Let the CP to SP ratio between Sita and Gita be = 124 : 99.2
Gita sold at the CP of Ram, ratio of CP: SP = 99.2 : 80
∴ Loss % = (19.2/99.2) × 100 = 19.35 %
