The distance between two points X and Y is 480 km. Train A starts from X and train B starts from Y and meet at the point W, which is 180 km away from X. If, Train A starts two hour earlier than train B, then in what time (in hour) train B reaches point W? (Assume speeds of X and Y are same )
The distance between two points X and Y is 480 km. Train A starts from X and train B starts from Y and meet at the point W, which is 180 km away from X. If, Train A starts two hour earlier than train B, then in what time (in hour) train B reaches point W? (Assume speeds of X and Y are same ) Correct Answer 3 hours
Given:
Distance between X and Y points = 480 km
Starting time of train A = 2 hours before train B
Speed of Train A = Speed of Train B
Meeting point of both trains = 180 km from point X
Concept used:
If train A starts 2 hours before than train B, it means Train A travels for 2 more hours than train B
Calculation:
Let the time taken by train B be t hours
So, time taken by train A = (t + 2) hours
Now, distance covered by train A in (t + 2) hours = (480 - 180) km
⇒ 300 km
Now, if their speed is same, So,
300/(t + 2) = 180/t
⇒ 300t = 180t + 360
⇒ 120t = 360
⇒ t = 3 hours
∴ Time taken by train B is 3 hours
