Krishnaiah gave 30% of his retirement benefits to his wife. From the remaining amount he distributed 20% each to his 2 children. From the remaining, 50% of the amount he donated to a school. If the final balance left with him is Rs. 42,000, what was his total amount of retirement benefits? Correct Answer Rs. 2,00,000

Given:

Gave 30% of his retirement benefits to his wife

From the remaining amount 20% each to his 2 children

From the remaining, 50% of the amount he donated to a school

The final balance left with him is Rs. 42,000

Calculation:

Let R be the retirement benefits got

Remaining after gave 30% of his retirement benefits to his wife = 70% of R

Remaining after gave 2 children = 60% of (70% of R)

Remaining after gave to the school = 50% of (60% of (70% of R))

⇒ R × (7/10) × (3/5) × (1/2) = 42000

∴ R = 2,00,000
