Selling price of the first variety of rice = Rs. 24/kg

Selling price of the second variety of rice = Rs. 40/kg

Concept:

Total value of rice = Rate × Quantity

Calculation:

Let the quantities in which different types of rice are mixed be 5x and 3x respectively

Total value of Rs. 24/kg rice = 24 × 5x = 120x

Total value of Rs. 40/kg rice = 40 × 3x = 120x

Total value of both types of rice = 120x + 120x = 240x

Total quantities of both types of rice = 5x + 3x = 8x

Price per kg of the mixed type of rice = Rs. 240x/8x = Rs. 30

∴ Price of the mixed variety of rice per kg is Rs. 30/kg

Let, the selling price of the mixed variety of rice = Rs. x

According to the questions,

⇒ (40 − x) ∶ (x − 24) = 5 ∶ 3

⇒ 120 – 3x = 5x – 120

⇒ 240 = 8x

⇒ x = 30

∴ Price of the mixed variety of rice per kg is Rs. 30/kg
