If 1 kg of metal that has 25% zinc and the rest is copper is mixed with 5 kg of metal that has 40% zinc and the rest is tin. What is the ratio of three elements in the resulting mixture? Correct Answer 3 : 1 : 4

Given

1 kg of metal having 25% of zinc and rest is copper.

5 kg of metal having 40% zinc and rest is tin.

Formula used:

X% of Y = XY/100

Calculation:

Weight of zinc in 1 kg mixture = 1 × (25/100) = 1/4 kg

Weight of copper in 1 kg mixture = 1 – 1/4 = 3/4 kg

Weight of zinc in 5 kg mixture = 5 × (40/100) = 2 kg

Weight of tin in 5 kg mixture = 5 – 2 = 3 kg

Weight of zinc in both alloys = 1/4 + 2 = 9/4 kg

∴ Required ratio = 9/4 : 3/4 : 3 = 3 : 1 : 4
