In a company, employees are divided into two departments sales and management. Of the total 70% of the employees are in sales and 60% of the management employees earn more than Rs. 5 lakh/year. If 80% of total employees earn more than Rs 5 lakh/year, then what proportion of sales employees earn less than Rs 5 lakh/year?   Correct Answer 4/35

GIVEN:

Employees in sales = 70%

Sales employees earning more than 5 lakh/year = 60%

Employees earning more than 5 lakh/year = 80%

FORMULA USED:

Percentage = part/whole × 100

CALCULATION:

Let total employees be 100

No. of sales employees = 70

No. of management employees = 30

Sales employees earning more than 5 lakh/year = 60% of 30 = 18

Management employees earning more than 5 lakh/year = 80 - 18 = 62

∴ Required proportion = (70 - 62)/70 =4/35

∴ The proportion will be 4/35
