Sheena has an interview in Dehradun. She leaves Delhi for Dehradun at 13.30 hrs and reaches Dehradun at 19.30 hrs. On the same day, Reena also has an interview in Delhi. Reena leaves Dehradun at 13 ∶ 00 hrs, reaches Delhi at 18.30hrs. At what time do they pass each other?  Correct Answer 16 ∶ 06 hrs

Given ∶

Sheena leaves Delhi at 13 ∶ 30 hrs and reaches Dehradun at 19 ∶ 30 hrs

Reena leaves Dehradun at 13 ∶ 00 hrs and reach Delhi at 18 ∶ 30 hrs.

Formula Used ∶

Distance = Speed × time

Calculation ∶

Let the distance between Delhi and Dehradun be 'd' km

Sheena's Speed = (d/6) kmph and

Reena's Speed = (d/5.5) kmph

Let 't' be the time in hrs after Reena has left for Delhi, when they both meet.

And Distance travelled by Sheena = (d/6) ×

And distance travelled by Reena = (d/5.5) × t

So, the sum of the distance travelled by them = Distance between Delhi and Dehradun

∴ (d/5.5) × t + (d/6) (t - 30/60) = d

d = d

⇒ 1380t = 3960 + 330 = 4290

⇒ t = 4290/1380 = 3.10 hrs = 3.1 hrs (approx) or 3 hrs 6mins

Hence, They both meet or pass at 16 ∶ 06 hrs.
