The length, breadth and height of a rectangular room are 15 feet, 10 feet and 12 feet respectively. It has one door 6 ft × 4 ft and two windows measuring 5 ft × 5 ft. What will be the cost of painting the interior walls of the room (excluding doors, windows, ceiling and floor) at the rate of Rs 14 per sq. ft.? Correct Answer Rs. 7,364

Given

Length of a rectangular room = 15 feet

Breadth of a rectangular room = 10 feet

Height of a rectangular room = 12 feet

Formula used

Lateral surface area of cuboid = 2 (length + breadth) × height

Total cost = Area of surface × cost per sq. feet

Calculation

Lateral surface area of room = 2(15 + 10) × 12 =600 sq. ft.

Area of 2 windows == 2 × 5 × 5 = 50 sq. ft.

Area of door = 6 × 4 = 24 sq. ft.

Area required for painting = 600 - 74 = 526 sq. ft.

Total cost for painting = 526 × 14 = Rs 7,364

∴ The correct answer is Rs 7,364
