The question given below consists of a statement and/or a question and two statements numbered l and ll given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statement(s) is sufficient to answer the question. What will be the cost of the painting of two adjacent walls of a room at Rs. 240 per sqm each of which is not having a door or a window? l. The length and breadth of the room are in the ratio of 5 : 3. ll. The perimeter of the floor of the room is 48m and the height is one-eighth of the perimeter of the floor of the room.
Correct Answer
If the data in the statement ll alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Solution:
Let the length, breadth and height of the room be l, b and h respectively.
Statement 1:
Let l = 5x and b = 3x
We can see statement 1 alone is not sufficient to answer the question. Because the dimensions of the room are unknown.
Statements 2:
The perimeter of the room = 2 × (l + b) = 48
⇒ (l + b) = 24 …… (1)
Height of room = 48/8 = 6 m
The cost of painting of two adjacent walls of the room = (lh + bh) × (240)
⇒ (l + b) × h × 240
⇒ (24) × 6 × 240
⇒ Rs. 34560
From equation 1 we can find the cost of the painting.
∴ Statement 2 alone is sufficient to answer this question.
