In an office, 45 percent of the total employees are female. 30 percent of the female employees are married and 90 percent of the male employees are married. Unmarried employees are what percentage of the total employees in office? Correct Answer 37 percent

Given:

The female in total employees are 45%

The married female employees are 30%

The married male employees are 90%

Calculation:

Let total employees be x

The female employees = 45% of x = 9x/20

The male employees = 55% of x = 11x/20

The married male employees = (11x/20) × (90/100) = 99x/200

The unmarried male employees = (11x/20) × (10/100) = 11x/200

The married female employees = (9x/20) × (30/100) = 27x/200

The unmarried female employees = (9x/20) × (70/100) = 63x/200

Sum of unmarried employees = (11x/200) + (63x/200) = 74x/200

Required percentage =  × 100

⇒  × 100 = 37%

∴ The required percentage is 37%.

Shortcut Trick

Let total employees 1000

Female = 45% of 1000 = 450

Male = 55% of 1000 = 550

Unmarried male = 10% of 550 = 55

Unmarried female = 70% of 450 = 315

Total unmarried employees = 55 + 315 = 370

Required percentage = (Unmarried employees/Total employees) × 100

⇒ (370/1000) × 100 = 37%

∴ The required percentage is 37%.
