The sum of the present ages of a father and his son is 110 years. 5 years ago their respective ages were in the ratio of 7 : 3. After 20 years what will be the ratio of ages of father and son?  Correct Answer 19 : 11

Given:

The present age of the father and his son is 110

The ratio of age of father and son 5 years ago is 7 : 3

Concept:

If the sum of the age of A and B is X then the age of A is (X - B) and age of B is (X - A)

Calculation:

Let be assume the present age of father is F and the present age of son is S

⇒ F + S = 110  ..... (1)

⇒ (F - 5)/(S - 5) = 7/3 ..... (2)

⇒ By equation (1) and (2)

⇒ (F - 5)/(110 - F - 5) = 7/3

⇒ F = 75 and S = 35

⇒ Ratio of the age of father and son after 20 year = (75 + 20)/(35 + 20) = 95/55 = 19/11

∴ The required result will be 19/11.
