A man while travelling a distance of 200km by a car at a speed of 40 km/hr, his car breaks down at half the journey and the remaining distance is covered by bus to reach his destination. If the total time taken to reach the destination is 4.5 hours, then what is the speed of the bus?.
A man while travelling a distance of 200km by a car at a speed of 40 km/hr, his car breaks down at half the journey and the remaining distance is covered by bus to reach his destination. If the total time taken to reach the destination is 4.5 hours, then what is the speed of the bus?. Correct Answer 50 km/hr
Given:
The speed of car = 40 km/h
The total distance = 200 km
Formula used:
S = D/T
Where, S = Speed, D = Distance and T = Time
Calculation:
Let the speed of bus be S
According to the question;
⇒ Total time is taken by car to complete the journey = 200/40 = 5 hours
⇒ To travel half of the distance car will take time = 5/2 = 2.5 hours
⇒ Time is taken by bus to travel half of the distance = 4.5 - 2.5 = 2 hours
⇒ The total distance travel by bus in = 2 × 2 = 4 hours
⇒ The speed of bus = 200/4 = 50 km/h
∴ The required result will be 50 km/h.
