The total population of a town is 18000. The male population increases by 70 percent and female population increases by 40 percent. If the total population becomes 27000, then what were the initial number of females in the town? Correct Answer 12000

Given:

Total population increased from 18000 to 27000

Males increased by 70%

Females increased by 40%

Calculation:

Let the initial numbers of females be f

Then, number of males initially = 18000 - f

According to the question,

Increased population = 1.4f + 1.7(18000 - f) = 27000

⇒ 30600 - 0.3f = 27000

⇒ f = 12000

∴ Initial number of females = 12000
