The male population of a village increases by 10% every year from 2017 to 2019 and the female population increases by 25% every year from 2017 to 2019. If the total population of the village in 2019 becomes 27020 and the ratio of male to the female population in 2017 was 3 : 2, then what was the total population of the village in 2017?
The male population of a village increases by 10% every year from 2017 to 2019 and the female population increases by 25% every year from 2017 to 2019. If the total population of the village in 2019 becomes 27020 and the ratio of male to the female population in 2017 was 3 : 2, then what was the total population of the village in 2017? Correct Answer 14500
Given:
The male population of a village increases by 10% every year from 2017 to 2019 and the female population increases by 25% every year from 2017 to 2019.
If the total population of the village in 2019 becomes 27020 and the ratio of male to the female population in 2017 was 3 : 2
Calculation:
Let male and female population in 2017 be ‘300x’ and ‘200x’ respectively.
Total male population % increase in 2 years = 10 + 10 + 100/100 = 21%
After two years it increased by = 100 + 21 = 121%
Total female population % increase in 2 years = 25 + 25 + 625/100 = 56.25%
Male population in 2019 = 300x × (121/100)2 = (300x × 1.21)2 = 439.23x
Female population in 2019 = 200x × (1.5625)2 = 488.28x
According to the question,
439.23x + 488.28x = 27020
⇒ 927.51x = 29.13 ≈ 29
Total population of village in 2017 = 300x + 200x = 500x = 500 × 29 = 14500
∴ total population of village in 2017 was 14500.
