Two quantities I and II are given in the following questions. You have to find the values of both I and II by using your knowledge of mathematics and choose the most suitable relation between quantity I and II from the given options. Quantity I: Two persons A and B started a business with their certain initial capital. If A and B invested their capital in the business for 12 years and 8 years respectively and the ratio of their profit from the business is 21 : 16, then what is the initial capital invested by A if B invested Rs. 16000. (Consider only numerical value) Quantity II: Ratio of male to female who have a Visa card is 8 : 5 while the ratio of male to female who have a Master card is 4 : 7. The ratio of males who have a Visa card to those who have a Master card is 2 : 1. If the total number of males who have both cards is 15000 then find the total number of females who have both cards?

The ratio of males who have a Visa card to those who have a Master card is 2 : 1. If the total number of males who have both cards is 15000 then find the total number of females who have both cards? Correct Answer Quantity I < Quantity II

Quantity I:

Suppose the profit share of A and B is ‘21x’ and ‘16x’ respectively.

Profit = Initial capital × Time

Initial capital = Profit/Time

⇒ Ratio of initial capital of A to B = (21x/12) : (16x/8) = 1.75 : 2 = 7 : 8

∵ B invested Rs. 16000

⇒ Amount invested by A = 16000 × 7/8 = Rs. 14000

Quantity II:

Suppose the number of males who have Visa card and Master card is ‘2x’ and ‘x’ respectively.

⇒ Number of females who have Visa card = 2x × (5/8) = 1.25x

⇒ Number of females who have Master card = x × (7/4) = 1.75x

Total number of males who have both cards = (2x + x) = 3x

Total number of females who have both cards = (1.25x + 1.75x) = 3x

⇒ Total number of females who have both cards = 15000

∴ Quantity I < Quantity II
