The stationary shop owner sells geometry tool set at Rs. 75 after providing 40% discount on MRP and gains 25% profit. If he sells the set on MRP, how much % more profit he can earn? Correct Answer 83%
Discount is always offer on selling price,
Discounted price = Selling price or MRP - discount offer
Here, Discounted price = Rs. 75
Discount offer = 40% of MRP
⇒ 75 = MRP - 40% of MRP
⇒ 75 = 60% of MRP
⇒ MRP = 75/0.60 = Rs. 125
Profit is always offer on cost price,
Profit earn = Selling price - cost price,
Here, Profit earn = 25% of cost price,
⇒ 25% of cost price = 75 - cost price
⇒ 125% of cost price = 75
⇒ cost price = 75/1.25 = Rs. 60
Amount of profit earn by selling at MRP,
⇒ Profit earn = MRP - cost price;
⇒ Profit earn = 125 - 60 = Rs. 65
⇒ % of profit = 6500/60 = 108.33%
∴ Difference in % = 108.33 - 25% = 83.33% ≈ 83%
