Sumit started his 5 days’ trip with a certain amount of money, out of which, he spend 26% of the money on the first day. In the next 3 days, he spend 45% of the remaining money. Then, on the last day of trip, he spends 75% of the remaining money and returns home with Rs. 814. With how much money did he start his trip? Correct Answer Rs. 8000

Let Sumit started his trip with Rs. ‘x’

Amount spent on first day = 26% of x = 0.26x

Amount remaining after first day = x – 0.26x = 0.74x

Amount spent in next 3 days = 45% of 0.74x = 0.45 × 0.74x = 0.333x

Amount remaining after 4 days = 0.74x – 0.333x = 0.407x = (407/1000)x

Amount spent on last day = 75% of (407/1000)x = (75/100) × (407/1000)x = (1221/4000)x

Amount remaining after 5 days = (407/1000)x – (1221/4000)x = (407/4000)x

∵ He returned home with Rs. 814,

⇒ (407/4000)x = 814

⇒ x = 814 × (4000/407)

⇒ x = Rs. 8000

∴ Sumit started his trip with Rs. 8000
