Given below are two quantities named A and B. Based on the given information, you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose among the possible answers. Quantity A∶ In a kilometre race, X beats Y by 150 meters. Y beats Z by 200 meters. By how much meters does X beat Z in the same race? Quantity B∶ P can finish a race in 5 minutes and Q can finish the same race in 6 minutes. By what distance P will defeat Q in a race of 2400 metre?
Given below are two quantities named A and B. Based on the given information, you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose among the possible answers. Quantity A∶ In a kilometre race, X beats Y by 150 meters. Y beats Z by 200 meters. By how much meters does X beat Z in the same race? Quantity B∶ P can finish a race in 5 minutes and Q can finish the same race in 6 minutes. By what distance P will defeat Q in a race of 2400 metre? Correct Answer Quantity A < Quantity B
Quantity A∶
While X covers 1000 meters, Y can cover 850 metres;
While Y covers 1000 meters, Z can cover 800 metres;
Let’s assume that all three of them are running same race
∴ When Y runs 850 meters, Z will run 850 × 800/1000 = 680 metres;
∴ X will beat Z by (1000 – 680 = 320) metres
Quantity B∶
Since the time taken by P and Q are 5 min and 6 min respectively;
Ratio of time taken by P & Q = 5 ∶ 6
∴ Ratio of speeds of P & Q = 6 ∶ 5
∴ Time required by P to cover 2400 metre = 2400/6 = 400 sec
∴ Distance covered by Q in 400 sec (when P will reach the finishing line) = 400 × 5 = 2000 metre
∴ P will beat Q by (2400 – 2000) 400 metres.
∴ Quantity A < Quantity B
