Ramesh started a business by investing Rs. 48000 and after some months Suresh joined him with Rs. 36000. If the profit is divided in the ratio 4 ∶ 1 at the end of the year, find after how many months did Suresh join Ramesh? Correct Answer 8

Let Suresh invest his capital for t months

Ratio of profit = Ramesh’s capital × time ∶ Suresh’s capital × time

⇒ 4 ∶ 1 = 48000 × 12 ∶ 36000 × t

⇒ 4 ∶ 1 = 16 ∶ t

⇒ 4/1 = 16/t

⇒ t = 4 months

∴ Suresh joins Ramesh after 12 - 4 = 8 months
