A started a business by investing Rs. 18000. After few months, B joined the business by investing Rs. 24000. If at the end of 1 year the profit of share of A is 64(2/7)% of the total profit of Rs. 4900, then after how many months B joined the business? Correct Answer 7 months

Let B joined the business for t months.

The ratio between the profit shares of A and B:

⇒ 18000 × 12 : 24000 × t

⇒ 18 × 12 : 24 × t

⇒ 9 : t

Again let the profit shares of A and B be 9x and tx respectively.

64(2/7)% = (450/7)% = 450/700

Given, the profit share of A = 4900 × (450/700) = Rs. 3150

So, the profit share of B = 4900 - 3150 = Rs. 1750

Now,

⇒ 9x = 3150

⇒ x = 350

So, tx = 1750

⇒ t × 350 = 1750

⇒ t = 5

Hence, B joined the business after (12 - 5) = 7 months.
