A dog is chasing a cat and the cat is 36 jumps ahead of itself jump from the dog. The dog can jump 3 times in the time in which the cat jumps 4 times and the distance covered by the dog and the cat in one jump is 2.4 meter and 1.5 meter respectively. In how much jumps, dog will catch the cat?
A dog is chasing a cat and the cat is 36 jumps ahead of itself jump from the dog. The dog can jump 3 times in the time in which the cat jumps 4 times and the distance covered by the dog and the cat in one jump is 2.4 meter and 1.5 meter respectively. In how much jumps, dog will catch the cat? Correct Answer 135 jumps
Distance covered by the dog and the cat in one jump is 2.4 meter and 1.5 meter respectively;
∴ Ratio of distance covered in one jump of dog and cat = 2.4 : 1.5 = 8 : 5
Since the dog can jump 3 times in the time in which the cat jumps 4 times;
∴ Speed of dog = 8 × 3 = 24 m/s
Speed of cat = 5 × 4 = 20 m/s
∴ Relative speed = 24 – 20 = 4 m/s
Distance of 36 jumps of cat = 36 × 5 = 180 m
∴ Time of chasing = 180/4 = 45 seconds
∴ Number of jumps in which dog will catch the cat = 45 × 3 = 135 jumps
