Each one of the 39 students in a class has one dog or one cat or both a dog and a cat as pet. Twenty students have a dog and 26 students have a cat How many students have both a dog and a cat ?  Correct Answer 7

Given:

Total number of students in class = 39

Number of students have dog = 20

Number of students have cat = 26

Calculation:

Students have bot cat and dog = (numbers of students have dog + numbers of students have cat) - Total number of students

⇒Students have bot cat and dog =  20 + 26 - 39

⇒ 46 - 39 = 7

∴ Students have both cat and dog are 7.
