Let ‘x’ applications were received by the college
⇒ No. of applications shortlisted and called for interview = 75% of x = 3x/4
⇒ No. of people that appeared for interview = 60% of (3x/4) = (60/100) × (3x/4) = 9x/20
⇒ No. of people that were selected = 4% of (9x/20) = (4/100) × (9x/20) = 9x/500
According to question,
⇒ 9x/500 = 27
⇒ x = (500/9) × 27 = 1500
∴ 1500 applications were received by the college
