A man ordered several boxes of sweets for Diwali. He gave 25% of the boxes to his friends and 80% of the remaining to his relatives. He takes 12 boxes with him and distributes the remaining boxes to the poor people. If the number of boxes distributed in poor people is 10% of the total boxes order, then how many boxes of sweets did he ordered?
A man ordered several boxes of sweets for Diwali. He gave 25% of the boxes to his friends and 80% of the remaining to his relatives. He takes 12 boxes with him and distributes the remaining boxes to the poor people. If the number of boxes distributed in poor people is 10% of the total boxes order, then how many boxes of sweets did he ordered? Correct Answer 240
Let the man ordered ‘x’ boxes of sweets.
⇒ No. of boxes given to friends = 25% of x = 0.25x
⇒ Remaining boxes = x – 0.25x = 0.75x
⇒ No. of boxes given to relatives = 80% of 0.75x = 0.8 × 0.75x = 0.6x
⇒ No. of boxes he is left with = 12
⇒ No. of boxes distributed in poor people = 10% of x = 0.1x
Now,
⇒ Total no. of boxes = x
⇒ x = 0.25x + 0.6x + 12 + 0.1x
⇒ x – 0.95x = 12
⇒ 0.05x = 12
⇒ x = 12/0.05 = 240
∴The man ordered 240 boxes of sweets
