A square land of side 30 m is divided into nine equal square plots of side 9 m and the remaining land (shaded region) is paved as shown below. The area of the shaded region is what percentage of the total area of the square land? Correct Answer 19%

∵ Area of square = side × side

Area of square land = 30 × 30 = 900 m2

Area of nine square plots = 9 × 9 × 9 = 729 m2

⇒ Area of shaded region = 900 – 729 = 171 m2

∴ Required percentage = 171/900 × 100 = 19%
