The floor of a square room of dimensions 4 m × 4 m is to be paved with tiles. 75% of the floor is to be paved with square tiles of side 20 cm each and the remaining floor is to be paved with square tiles of side 25 cm. How many total numbers of tiles will be required to pave the floor of the room?

The floor of a square room of dimensions 4 m × 4 m is to be paved with tiles. 75% of the floor is to be paved with square tiles of side 20 cm each and the remaining floor is to be paved with square tiles of side 25 cm. How many total numbers of tiles will be required to pave the floor of the room? Correct Answer 364

Area of room = 4 m × 4 m = 400 cm × 400 cm = 160000 cm2

Area of room to be paved with tiles of side 20 cm = 75% of 160000 = 120000 cm2

Area of 1 tile of side 20 cm = 20 × 20 = 400 cm2

⇒ No. of tiles with side 20 cm required = 120000/400 = 300

Also,

Area of room to be paved with tiles of side 25 cm = 160000 – 120000 = 40000 cm2

Area of 1 tile of side 25 cm = 25 × 25 = 625 cm2

⇒ No. of tiles with side 25 cm required = 40000/625 = 64

∴ Total no. of tiles required to pave the room = 300 + 64 = 364
