A train covers a certain distance at the speed of 80 km/h. If the train takes a halt for a fixed time every hour, this results in average speed to be 10 km/hr less than the normal speed. For how much time does the train halt for every hour?
A train covers a certain distance at the speed of 80 km/h. If the train takes a halt for a fixed time every hour, this results in average speed to be 10 km/hr less than the normal speed. For how much time does the train halt for every hour? Correct Answer 7.5 min
Let the distance (LCM of speeds 80 and 70) be 560
⇒ Actual time taken = 560/80 = 7 hours
⇒ Time taken at reduced speed = 560/70 = 8 hours
Thus, in 8 hrs there is a halt for 1 hr
∴ Required halt time = 1/8 × 60 = 7.5 min
