If the Distance between station P and Q is 300 km. Train A leaves at a speed of x km/h from P towards Q. After three hours Train B leaves at the speed of 10 km/h more from P towards Q. If x and the number of hours taken to meet after Train B starts are integers, how much distance can Train A cover before they meet?
If the Distance between station P and Q is 300 km. Train A leaves at a speed of x km/h from P towards Q. After three hours Train B leaves at the speed of 10 km/h more from P towards Q. If x and the number of hours taken to meet after Train B starts are integers, how much distance can Train A cover before they meet? Correct Answer 60 km
Distance travelled by train A in 3 hours = 3x km
⇒ Speed of train B = x + 10 km/h
Time of meeting = 3x/(x + 10 – x) = 3x/10 hr
∵ Time of the meeting is an integral value
⇒ x = 10k
Suppose k = 1
⇒ x = 10
∴ Total distance travelled by train A = 3x + 3x/10 × x
= 30 + 30/10 × 10 = 60 km
