The initial ratio of sugar and flour in the dough was 4 : 7 With 22 kg of the dough Justine added more flour to make the sugar to flour ratio 2 : 5. How much flour did Justine later added? Correct Answer 6 kg
Ratio of mixture of sugar and flour = 4 : 7
⇒ 4 + 7 = 11 unit
⇒ 11 unit = 22 kg
⇒ 1 unit = 2 kg
⇒ 4 unit = 2 × 4 = 8 kg
⇒ 7 unit = 2 × 7 = 14 kg
Quantity of sugar in the dough = 8 kg
Quantity of flour in the dough = 14 kg
Let quantity of flour added be x
According to the question
8/(14 + x) = 2/5
⇒ 40 = 28 + 2x
⇒ 2x = 40 – 28
⇒ x = 12/2
⇒ x = 6 kg
∴ Justine later on added 6 kg of flour
