Average of five subjects marks (i.e. Mathematics, Science, Social science, Hindi and English) = 65

Average of three subjects marks (Social science, Hindi and science) = 45

Formula used:

Average = Sum of all items/ no. of items

Calculation:

Sum of marks scored in five subjects (i.e. Mathematics, Science, Social science, Hindi and English) = 65 × 5 = 325 ----(1)

Sum of marks scored in three subjects (i.e. Science, Social science, Hindi) = 45 × 3 = 135 ---(2)

From (1) and (2)

Mathematics + English + Science + Social Science + Hindi = 325

Mathematics + English + 135 = 325

⇒ Mathematics + English = 325 – 135 = 190

∴ Marks scored in Mathematics and English together = 190
