A man travels from Delhi to Kolkata to buy gold which he can get 10% cheaper in Kolkata than in Delhi. The distance between Delhi and Kolkata is 2100 kilo- meter. The mileage of the car is 100 Km/L and the price of the petrol is Rs. 70/L. He makes a clear saving of 10,000 so how much does he pay for the gold? Correct Answer 1,03,230
Given:
Distance between Delhi and Kolkata = 2100 Kilo-meter
Price of petrol = 70/L
Saving = 10,000
Formulae used:
Total petrol used = total distance covered/mileage of the car
Calculations:
Total petrol used = 2100/100 = 21L
Total price of petrol = 21 × 70 = 1470
Let the cost price of gold at Delhi be x.
Cost price in Kolkata = 10% cheaper than Delhi
Cost price in Kolkata = x – 10% of x = 0.9x
According to question,
⇒ 0.9x + 1470 + 10,000 = x
⇒ 0.1x = 11,470
⇒ x = 11,470 × 10 = 1,14,700 = price of gold in Delhi
∴ Price of gold in Kolkata = 0.9x = 0.9 × 1,14,700 = 1,03,230
