In a school 20% of total students are interested in sports and 3 / 5th of total students are interested in dance. 12% of total students are interested in singing and remaining 28 students are not interested in any activity. How many students are there in the college? Correct Answer 350

Given:

Interest: Sports = 20%, dance = 3 / 5th and Singing = 12%

Not interested in any activity = 28

Formula:

New value = x / 100 × Actual Value                (x = percentage value of original)

Calculation:

Let, total number of students in college = 100x

According to the question,

⇒ 100x × 20 / 100 + 100x × 3 / 5 + 100x × 12 / 100 + 28 = 100x

⇒ 20x + 60x + 12x + 28 = 100x

⇒ 100x - 92x = 28

⇒ x = 28 / 8 = 3.5

∴ Total number of students in the college = 100 × 3.5 = 350
