Three businessmen hire a showroom for Rs. 25,200. If the first businessmen puts 20 electronic items for 8 days; the second businessmen puts 25 electronic items for 8 days; and the third businessmen puts 16 electronic items for 9 days; then what is the rent paid by each of them? Correct Answer Rs. 8,000, Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,200
Given:
Total cost of showroom = Rs. 25,200
Electronic items put by first businessman in 8 days = 20
Electronic items put by second businessman in 8 days = 25
Electronic items put by third businessman in 9 days = 16
Formula Used:
Total rent = Number of items × Number of days
Calculations:
Let the rent paid by first, second and third businessman be x, y and z respectively.
Rent paid by first businessman = 20 × 8
⇒ x = 160 ----(1)
Rent paid by second businessman = 25 × 8
⇒ y = 200 ----(2)
Rent paid by first businessman = 16 × 9
⇒ z = 144 ----(3)
From (1), (2) and (3), we get
x : y : z = 160 : 200 : 144
⇒ x : y : z = 20 : 25 : 18
Total cost of showroom = Rs. 25,200
Now, 1 unit = 25200/(20 + 25 + 18)
⇒ 1 unit = 400
⇒ x = 20 × 400 = Rs. 8,000
y = 25 × 400 = Rs. 10,000
z = 18× 400 = Rs. 7,200
∴ The rent paid by each businessman is Rs. 8,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 7,200 respectively.
