Given : 

Total number of cars produced = 40,00,000

Diesel cars = 45%

Percentage formula used.

Calculation: 

Percentage of petrol cars = (100 - 45)% = 55%

Number of petrol cars were produced = 55% of 4000000

⇒ (55 × 4000000)/100

⇒ 2200000

⇒  22 Lakh

∴ 22  Lakh petrol cars were produced.
