FORMULA USED:

Average = sum of all observations/ total no of observations

CALCULATION:

Runs in 7 innings = 68 ×7 = 476

Runs in 8 innings = 72 × 8 = 576

Score in 8th innings = 576 - 476 = 100

Score in 9th innings = 100 + 16 = 116

Runs in 9 innings = 576 + 116 = 692

Runs in last 8 innings = 68 × 8 = 544

Runs in 1st innings = 692 - 544 = 148 

∴ Rohit scored 148 runs in 1st innings.
