The average runs scored by Rohit in 7 innings is 68. In the next innings, he scores some runs such that his average becomes 72. In the 9th innings he scores 16 runs more than his previous innings and now average of his last 8 innings becomes equal to his average of first 7 innings. How many runs did he score in his 1st innings? Correct Answer 148
GIVEN:
Average of 7 innings = 68
Average of 8 innings = 72
Runs in 9th innings = 16 + Runs in 8th innings
Average of last 8 innings = Average of first 7 innings
FORMULA USED:
Average = sum of all observations/ total no of observations
CALCULATION:
Runs in 7 innings = 68 ×7 = 476
Runs in 8 innings = 72 × 8 = 576
Score in 8th innings = 576 - 476 = 100
Score in 9th innings = 100 + 16 = 116
Runs in 9 innings = 576 + 116 = 692
Runs in last 8 innings = 68 × 8 = 544
Runs in 1st innings = 692 - 544 = 148
∴ Rohit scored 148 runs in 1st innings.
