In a 4-kilometer long race, A wins B by 400 meters. In the same race, B gives a start of 400 meters to C. If A and C want to complete the 4 km race together, then how many meters does A give C start? Correct Answer 760 meter
Given:
A wins B by 400 meters
B give head start to C of 400 m
Total race = 4 km
Concept used:
A : B1
B2 : C
A × B2 : B1 × B2 : C × B1
Calculation:
Ratio of distance covered by A and B
4000 : 36000 = 10 : 9
Ratio covered by B and C
4000 : 3600 = 10 : 9
Ratio of A : B : C is
10 × 10 : 10 × 9 : 9 × 9
⇒ 100 : 90 : 81
100 = 4000 m
So, 81 = 3240
A should give head start to B of
4000 - 3240 = 760 m
∴ A should give head start to C of 760 m.
