In 5 km race, if P gives Q 500 m start and P wins the race by 2.1 min. When Q wins the race by 1000 m if P gives 4.2 min start. Find the difference in the time taken by Q and P.
In 5 km race, if P gives Q 500 m start and P wins the race by 2.1 min. When Q wins the race by 1000 m if P gives 4.2 min start. Find the difference in the time taken by Q and P. Correct Answer 3 min
Let P takes M seconds and Q takes N seconds to run the 5000m race.
2.1 min = 2.1 × 60 = 126s
4.2 min = 4.2 × 60 = 252s
Given,
⇒ M + 126 = 4500N/5000
⇒ 4000M/5000 + 252 = N
Solving,
Then,
⇒ M = 360s
⇒ N = 540s
Required difference in time taken by Q and P
⇒ 540 – 360 = 180 sec ⇒ 3 min
