In the following question, two statements are numbered as A and B. On solving these statements, we get quantities A and B respectively. Solve both quantities and choose the correct option. Quantity A: If Rs.11800 is divided among three friends A, B and C in the Ratio 2A : 5B : 7C then find the share of A. Quantity B: The ratio of the incomes of A and B is 3 : 5, whereas the ratio of their expenditures is 4 : 7 respectively. If A and B save Rs. 16,000 and Rs. 26,000, respectively, then what is the difference (in Rs.) between their expenditures?

Correct Answer Quantity A > Quantity B

Quantity A:

Given that,

If Rs.11800 is divided among three friends A, B and C in the Ratio 2A : 5B : 7C

there shares will be in the ratio

A : B : C ⇒ 35 : 14 :10

35 + 14 + 10 = 59 units

59 units = 11800

1 unit = 200

A's share will be 35 × 200 = 7000

Quantity B:

Income ratio of A and B = 3x : 5x

Expenditure ratio of A and B = 4y : 7y

According to the question,

3x – 4y = 16000      ----(1)

5x – 7y = 26000      ----(2)

Subtract equation (1) from equation (2) after multiply by 5 in equation (1) and multiply by 3 in equation (2)

y = 2000

Difference between the expenditure are = 7y – 4y = 3y = 3 × 2000 = 6000

1 unit = 112000 – 104000 = 8000

Income of A = 3 × 8000 = 24000

Expenditure of A = 24000 – 16000 = 8000

Income of B = 5 × 8000 = 40000

Expenditure of B = 40000 – 26000 = 14,000

Required difference = 14000 – 8000 = 6000

∴ Quantity A > Quantity B
