Let the weight of 1 rice bag be ‘x’ kg

Initial average weight of bags = 5x/5 = x kg

Quantity of rice removed from bags = x/2 + x/3 + x/4 + x/5 + x/6 = (29/20)x

As the average weight is reduced by 34.8 kg,

Quantity of rice removed from 5 bags = 34.8 × 5 = 174 kg

⇒ (29/20)x = 174

⇒ x = (174 × 20)/29 = 120 kg

Hence, new average = 120 - 34.8 = 85.2 kg

When 10 kg of rice is removed from 5 bags, the average is reduced by = 10/5 = 2 kg

∴ Required average = 85.2 - 2 = 83.2 kg
