When the dimensions of a rectangle, having length and breadth of 25 cm and 16 cm respectively, were increased, its area increased by 62.5%. If the length was increased by 1 cm, find the increase in the breadth of the rectangle.

When the dimensions of a rectangle, having length and breadth of 25 cm and 16 cm respectively, were increased, its area increased by 62.5%. If the length was increased by 1 cm, find the increase in the breadth of the rectangle. Correct Answer 9 cm

Original length = 25 cm

Original breadth = 16 cm

Original area = 25 × 16 = 400 cm2

New area = (100 + 62.5)% of original area = 1.625 × 400 = 650 cm2

Now,

Increase in length = 1 cm

New length = 25 + 1 = 26 cm

Hence,

New breadth = new area/new length = 650/26 = 25 cm

∴ Increase in breadth = new breadth – original breadth = 25 – 16 = 9 cm
