The length and breadth of a photo frame is 8 cm × 6 cm. If both the dimensions are increased in the same proportion, what will be the difference in the length and breadth of the frame, when the perimeter of the frame becomes 112 cm?
The length and breadth of a photo frame is 8 cm × 6 cm. If both the dimensions are increased in the same proportion, what will be the difference in the length and breadth of the frame, when the perimeter of the frame becomes 112 cm? Correct Answer 8 cm
Given:
Length of frame = 8 cm
Breadth of frame = 6 cm
New perimeter of frame = 112 cm
Formula Used:
Perimeter of frame = 2 × (l + b)
where, l → Length of frame, b → Breadth of frame
Calculations:
Perimeter of frame = 2 × (l + b)
⇒ Perimeter of frame = 2 × (8 + 6)
⇒ Perimeter of frame = 28 cm ----(1)
New perimeter of frame = 112 cm ----(2)
New perimeter of frame/Initial perimeter of frame = 112/28
⇒ (2)/(1) = 4
Difference between length and breadth initially = (8 – 6) = 2 cm
⇒ Difference between length and breadth after increase = 2 × 4 = 8 cm
∴ The difference in the length and breadth of the frame after increase is 8 cm.
