Three workers Shubham, Ravi and Abhishek were assigned to a project. Time taken by Shubham is thrice the time taken by Abhishek to do the task when working alone. Ravi is 40% more efficient than Shubham, working together Ravi and Abhishek can finish the project in 105/23 days. Calculate the time taken by them to finish the project working together.

Time taken by Shubham is thrice the time taken by Abhishek

∴ Let the time taken by Abhishek to finish the task = x days

⇒ Time taken by Shubham to finish the task = 3x days

Now, Ravi is 40% more efficient than Shubham

⇒ Time taken by Ravi to finish the task = 3x × (100/140) = 15x/7 days

Working together Ravi and Abhishek can finish the task in 105/23 days

∴ (1/x) + (7/15x) = 23/105

⇒ (15 + 7)/15x = 23/105 

⇒ 23/15x = 23/105

⇒ 15x = 105

⇒ x = 7 

∴ Time taken by Abhishek to finish the task = 7 days

Time taken by Shubham to finish the task = 3 × 7 = 21 days

Time taken by Ravi to finish the task = (15/7) × 7 = 15 days

∴ Working together project can be finished in

⇒ (1/7) + (1/21) + (1/15) = (15 + 5 + 7)/105 = 27/105 = 9/35

∴ The project can be completed in 35/9 days
