Let Danny Morrison have D coins.
Harsha Bhogle have H coins.
Alan Wilkins have A coins.
Then, D = 5H and D = 8 + A 
So, 5H = 8 + A 
Danny gave away 40% of his coins. 
40% of Danny's coins = 0.40 x 5H = 2H 
Danny had 5H – 2H = 3H coins
Now, Harsha had H + H = 2H coins
Alan had A + H = 5H - 8 + H = (6H - 8) coins
Now, (6H - 8) = 2(2H) 
H = 4
