Who developed the Bilingual method?
Who developed the Bilingual method? Correct Answer Prof. C. J. Dodson
Various methods are devised by different philosophers and committees to make learners learn. Below are the few methods described:
- The Grammar – translation method: Earlier, most of the academics used to use this method of learning. It focuses on the translation of texts, grammar and rote learning of vocabulary.
- Direct method: Focuses on good pronunciation with the natural use of language. It does not focus too much on translation.
- Bilingual method: Developed by C J Dodson, this method uses the mother tongue to learn the target language. This method makes good use of student's pre-acquired knowledge in the mother tongue to connect with a word or object.
- Audio lingual method: In this method, the students learn the foreign language by repeating the periodic patterns of the everyday situation by a succession of drills.
Note that Prof. A. S. Homby has developed ‘‘oxford advanced learner’s dictionary’’, Prof Jespersen was a langauge teaching reformer and a phonetician, while Dr. West is related to reading method.
