A person wants to decorate the rectangular floor whose length is 30 cm and breadth is 20 cm. In the center, the floor is covered by the square carpet and the rest of the area is covered by the cloth. If the total costing in this process is Rs. 1500 and the price of carpet is Rs. 5/cm2 and the price of cloth is Rs. 2/cm2. Find the width of the carpet.

Given:

Length of the floor = 30 cm

Breadth of the floor = 20 cm

Total cost in the process = Rs. 1500

Concept:

Using the mixture and alligation method, we find the how much cost per cm2 in the process then compare with price of carpet and cloth.

Formula:

Area of rectangle = length × breadth

Calculation:

Area of Rectangle = 30 × 20 = 600 cm2

Cost per cm2 in the process = 1500/600 = Rs. 2.5/cm2

Ratio of area = 1 : 5

Total area of floor = 600

6 units = 600

⇒ 1 unit = 100

So, Area of square carpet = 100

side2 = 100

⇒ side = 10

∴ The side of the carpet on the rectangular floor is 10 cm
