Initially there are 9 workers, all being paid a uniform wage. Later a 10th worker is added whose wage rate is Rs. 20 less than for the others. The average wage gets: Correct Answer decreased by Rs. 2

Formula

Average = sum of observation/total number of observations

Calculation

Let the uniform wages of 9 workers be Rs. x per worker

Total wages of 9 workers = 9x

After adding 10th worker whose wage is 20 less than the other then total wages of all 10 workers

⇒ 10x - 20

⇒ Average wages = (10x - 20)/10 = x - 2

∴ The new average wage is Rs. 2 less than the previous wages of Rs.x
