Human beings are social animals and they come in contact with different situations and institutions throughout their life. They get themselves educated through various agencies of education.
The various agencies of education are:
- Family:
- Family is the first point of interaction of a child with the outer world once he is born.
- The child learns his first language and expected norms of behavior are most influenced by being a part of a family.
- Family environment gives shape to the social, psychological, emotional and moral aspects of a child’s development.
- A child learns through imitating and observing the family members.
- It is through the family that a child acquires the culture, beliefs and values.
So, in Childhood, individual behavior is most influenced by family.
- Community: A group of people sharing the same way of living, ideals, and principles is called a community. It is an informal agency of education where a child imbibes customs and traditions that regulate their social behavior. A community influences the life and activities of children by establishing cinemas, zoos, parks and playgrounds, hospitals, libraries, etc.
- School: A school is another agency of education as well as a miniature form of society. A school has got its own culture and social setting. A school helps a child to acquire their identities and to gain knowledge and social skills.
- Peer Group: Children like to play and hang out in a group which greatly influences their self-concept. Peer group gives them security and a sense of belonging. Being accepted by the members of the group builds their self-confidence.
