If gut motility is increased then:
If gut motility is increased then: Correct Answer Drug absorption is decreased
Concept:-
- Gut motility (or gastrointestinal motility) is the process by which food travels through the digestive tract through a series of muscle contractions called peristalsis.
- Drug Absorption is the transfer of a drug from its site of administration to the bloodstream. Most of the drugs are absorbed by the way of passive transport
- Intravenous administration has no Absorption
Factors affecting absorption are
- Drug Properties (lipid solubility, molecular weight, etc)
- Blood Flow at the absorption Site
- Contact time of Absorption surface, longer the time of contact more will be the rate of absorption.
There is not enough time for the drug to be absorbed, while it tends to be readily and rapidly excreted, resulting in decreased bioavailability and decreased absorption. Hence, if the gut motility is Increased the rate of absorption is decreased.
