Consider the following statements. 1. Pistil is the female reproductive part and stamen is the male reproductive part of a flower. 2. Hibiscus and Watermelon are examples of unisexual flowers. Which among the above is/are correct statements. Correct Answer 1 only
The correct answer is 1 only.
- Stamen is the male reproductive part and it produces pollen grains that are yellowish in color.
- The pistil is present in the center of a flower and is the female reproductive part. It is made of three parts. The swollen bottom part is the ovary, the middle elongated part is the style and the terminal part which may be sticky is the stigma. (Hence statement 1 is correct).
- A unisexual flower is one in which either the stamens or the carpels are missing or otherwise non-functional.
- Example-Coconut flowers, Papaya, Watermelon, Cucumber, Maize, White mulberry, etc.
- A bisexual flower is one in which both stamens or the carpels are present or otherwise functional.
- Example- Hibiscus, mustard, lily, rose, sunflower, etc. (statement 2 is incorrect)
