Aakansha travels 40% distance of the 15 hours journey by bus and 75 % of the remaining by train and taxi in the respective ratio of 5:4 and the remaining distance she covers on feet. If the sum of the distance which she travels on feet and by Taxi is 63 km, then find the total average speed at which Aakanksha completed his journey?
Aakansha travels 40% distance of the 15 hours journey by bus and 75 % of the remaining by train and taxi in the respective ratio of 5:4 and the remaining distance she covers on feet. If the sum of the distance which she travels on feet and by Taxi is 63 km, then find the total average speed at which Aakanksha completed his journey? Correct Answer 12 km/h
Let d be the total distance of the journey.
Distance travelled by bus = 0.4d
Distance travelled by train and taxi = 0.75 × 0.6d = 0.45d
Distance travelled by train = (5/9) × 0.45d = 0.25d
Distance travelled by taxi = (4/9) × 0.45d = 0.2d
Distance travelled on feet = d – (0.4d + 0.45d) = d – 0.85d = 0.15d
Distance travelled on feet and by taxi = 0.2d + 0.15d = 0.35d = 63 km (given)
⇒ d = 63/0.35 = 900/5 = 180 km
Thus, total average speed = 180/ 15 = 12 km/h
